a cooking fail and a giveaway winner

Hi y'all! Top o' the morning to ya! (In my best Irish voice, which usually ends up somehow kind of Middle-Eastern. I don't have a gift for varying my voice...)

I know it's not a surprise to anyone that I love to cook. If you follow me on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram @reginakayxo, you know that I'm often posting pictures of food that I cook and sometimes I'll even come share the recipe on my blog. I come from a cooking family, so food was always around any time we were together. Lately, since Joey and I have been on a diet, I've been exploring new foods and ways to satisfy my cravings (I just want some french fries!!!) without going against my diet. One recipe I wanted to try was sweet potato chips. Basically, the premise is to thinly slice sweet potatoes, coat them in oil and spices and bake them until they are chip-like. I thought this would great so I gave it a whirl!

Well, to give myself a little credit, it wasn't a complete fail. There were a few sweet potato chips that were edible. But mostly, they were like this. Evidently the recipe I was using had them cooking too long. So I'm going to try again with my own recipe this week and see what happens.

But, what makes this recipe an epic fail, is a happened to burn these sweet potato chips at the exact time the fire marshall came to our house to do our yearly fire inspection on our home for our foster care licensing.

"Yes, Mr. Fire Marshall, do come in! Please ignore the burning smell and go ahead and pass our home. I promise I don't normally burn things. Wait! Where'd you go? Oh, sorry, I couldn't see you through all the smoke."

The good news is we still passed the fire inspection. And there were some edible chips. And I have two more sweet potatoes left to give this whole thing another try. So, all's well that ends well.

So see... sometimes I burn things. Sometimes a recipe doesn't work. Sometimes I fail. And that's okay. I just wanted to show you that not everything I cook comes out amazing.

But enough about burnt sweet potatoes.... let's get on to the fun part of announcing the winner of my giveaway!

Drum roll please!
