Helping Someone Live Their Dream

Hi y'all! I'm stepping away from the norm today and wanted to share with you guys a little something special!

One of my twitter friends, Sarah, has submitted her grant proposal to the Chase/Living Social Mission: Small Business program and is looking for votes! Chase/Living Social is giving 12 applicants a $250,000 grant to help grow their small business. This is life changing and could be just what Sarah needs to truly live her dream.

Sarah is an incredibly talented artist who sews fabulous headbands, but I'm mostly obsessed with her painted ceramics. Check them out:

Isn't her stuff fabulous? I can only imagine what she could do if she was one of the recipients of one of those grants.

So let's help Sarah!

First go here:

Then login (or you can simply connect via Facebook).

Then search for Sewzinski and cast your vote!

Sarah needs 250 votes by June 30th so go vote and then spread the word. Let's help make someone's dream come true.

Then when we got here, we spent some time unpacking, and then walking around, checking out the sites and having dinner. And Saturday has been spent with family, more walking around, yummy food, and lots and lots of laughter! I love spending time with Joey's family!

Anyway, but I didn't forget and here it is:

goodies : shades of summer 2

Hi y'all! Only two days left until we leave for vacation! YAY! I'm pretty excited about being in the mountains where it's cooler (it was 106 in my garage Monday afternoon), but there's a part of me that wishes we were headed to the beach. And thus, inspiration was born for this week's shades of summer series! Enjoy!

Inspiration from this weeks feature, comes from this lovely photograph:

Don't you just love the soft colors? I want to have an extended vacation and stay in a house on the beach. Anyone want to go with me?

See anything you like? I know I do!!

inspiration : treasury tuesday

Hi y'all! Welcome to Treasury Tuesday! This week is a short week, but we've got LOTS of things going on so it's been quite a whirlwind. Visits, doctors appointments, various appointments, not to mention I need to get all laundry done, packed, buy groceries, and get everything loaded up because we're leaving on Friday to go to the mountains! YAY! I'm worried about the travelling (I've never traveled with two kids so young), but I'm so looking forward to being with Joey's brother's family for a few days and not having thoughts of work creeping around in my head. And maybe... just maybe... there will be board games. Ahhh... I love board games and non-board games with family! YAY! :)

Aren't those lovely??

And thanks for all the great comments on my DIY from yesterday! Just know that no shoes are safe in my home now!

Also, I bought a calligraphy set today. I've been asked to make labels for a friend's wedding (I'm a bridesmaid) later this year and I figured, eh, why not just go ahead and buy it anyway. I'm trying to figure out what magic I want to create first!

I'm overflowing with ideas and inspiration right now. It's magical, and exhausting. Or maybe the exhaustion is more from the two boys... haha.

inspiration : { DIY } Shoe Makeover

Hi y'all! A few months ago I stumbled upon a fabulous clearance sale going on at DSW. I picked up some great wedges that I love. One pair is a great, khaki-colored, ruffled wedges and the other pair are these floral and rope wedges with a bow. Very cute, very comfy, but they didn't go with anything in my closet. They were only $9, so I bought them anyway. I thought that I'd eventually find something to pair them up with, but instead, inspiration struck (specifically inspiration here and here) and I decided to give them a complete makeover. And, I thought that since this went over so well, I'd share it with you all and see what you thought!

What you Need:
+ Shoes
+ Tweezers
+ Painter's tape
+ Fabric & acrylic paints
You might also want to use a fan and hair drying to speed up drying times.

Step 1 : Tape off the parts of the shoes you aren't painting. Take your time with this step, it'll be worth it in the end.

Use your fingernail to tuck the tape into the seams. This will ruin your manicure, but will make your shoes come out beautifully!

For those tricky rounded areas, simply lay your tape flat across them, and use a straight edge like scissors, a knife or a razor and gently cut around it. You don't have to cut all the way through, just enough to pull the excess tape away.

Step 2 : Prime your shoe. Because I was going to paint my shoes a light color, I gave them two good coats of "primer" using white fabric paint (Tulip puff paint, squirted on a paper plate [this comes in handy later]) applied with a brush. Take care to apply your primer underneath overlapping areas, in little nooks, and on the underside of bows (or ruffles if your shoes have those).

After each coat, I placed my shoe in front of a fan while applying the next coat to the other shoe. I did this during priming and painting as well.

Step 3 : Time to paint! Remember that Tulip brand puff paint squirted onto the paper plate? Now it's time to mix your shade! I used a few drops of acrylic paint until I got the shade of aqua that I wanted. I don't think it's any secret that I *adore* this color. I painted 3 coats of color and set the shoes in front of a fan for a little while to dry.

Step 4 : Finishing touches. Peel off the painter's tape and exclaim at how lovely your new shoes are. But, then you cringe and realize you've got little tidbits of tape hanging on for dear life. Use your tweezers to remove all those tiny hang-ons. Then take a tiny paint brush to carefully fill in any missed spots. (And refer to the bottom left picture to see what I mean about ruining your manicure.)

After your touch-ups have dried, you're ready to go!

Evidently, the right pair of shoes also makes you speak French. ;)

So what do you think?

Was this a great idea? Or did I just ruin a pair of perfectly good shoes? haha!

me : resuming our regularly scheduled blogcast {soon}

Hi y'all! Making the jump from one little guy to two little guys is quite a leap! Plus you throw in our AC drama, stomach virus, and project deadlines, it's been a crazy week! But we survived! And I told Joey last night, after we survived with two little ones and the stomach virus, I feel like we can survive anything.

I've been busy working on a huge custom garland order from Etsy, but I'm planning to be done with that this weekend and then getting back in the swing of blogging, crafting, etc. I'm looking forward to it. Being a momma is great, but this momma starts to get a little antsy and nuts when she can't be creative much. Anyone else out there like that?

With that being said, I'm hoping to resume my regularly scheduled blog posts this next week. So... here's hoping I see you bright and early Monday morning! As for my weekend, I'm hoping it will be productive, but relatively uneventful. haha. I need to finish up that custom order and then I'd like to work on a few other things. And tomorrow I'm having a lunch reunion of sorts with some ladies from our women's retreat back in March. After lunch I'll be going to try on Bridesmaid dresses for a wedding in September that I'm in. I'm excited!

What are your plans for the weekend?

me : a whirlwind week

Hi y'all! You know how you have hopes and dreams of having blogs ready every day and everything being structured and organized? And you know how that almost never works out the way you want it to? Yeah, I'm there right now. Let's just go over the last week of my life.

Last Thursday was VBS at church, which I organized. It was insanely busy, we had some stressful moments and there were a couple times when I just wanted it to be over. BUT, we also had 19 kids show up, we had lots of fun and I'm excited about what this will mean for future VBSs here.

Friday, as most of you already know, we got our newest foster placement. We're calling him McCrae and he's absolutely adorable! He's the tiniest thing, but so far he's doing great! BB has had lots of jealousy issues to work through, but he's getting better and better every day. Also on Friday, we had to have an AC repairman come out because our AC was leaking and had soaked the carpet when you first walk into our bedroom. Also on Friday we got the papers for Joey's new jeep finally. And Friday evening, I cooked stromboli and invited friends over. So it was a crazy busy day.

Saturday I had to go to Lubbock to pick up a few things I needed for McCrae. A friend went with me to help with the boys and she also needed to pick up a few things. On our way back home, Joey called to let me know the AC had froze up and wasn't working anymore. No more AC. With two little ones. Oh no!! After a bunch of calling around we finally were able to pack up and move to the H's house (from church) since they were gone for the weekend. It literally felt like we were moving in since we had two pack-n-plays, lots of bags and clothes and it was a lot. I was definitely feeling overwhelmed by everything.

Then on Sunday, things seemed to settle down a little bit. Monday was right around the corner and I knew the AC would probably be fixed by then, we also had a plumber coming on Monday to fix the dishwasher and garbage disposal, so I felt like we were in the clear. And then we went to evening services at church and Joey said he didn't feel that great. Later, I find out that as soon as he got up there to preach, his stomach started rolling and he didn't know if he was going to make it. We got back home to the H's and within an hour, Joey was throwing up. Which left me to take care of him and the two boys. THANKFULLY, the H's were there, I don't know how I would have made it without them. They helped with all three (haha) of my boys!

Monday morning rolls around and Joey is out of commission, so I take McCrae and go to our house to wait on the plumber and the AC guy. The AC guy shows up and fixes the air conditioner.... YAY! The H's watch the boys while I take Joey to the clinic where he gets a nice shot in the hip. (I told him if he's not nice, I'll bring him back to the nurse and let her give him another one.) I get Joey home and in bed, I get laundry done and the house straightened up a bit. I move all of our stuff from the H's back home and bring BB with me. I fix and eat some dinner, I've got the boys fed, Joey's sitting up on the couch, things are going well. And then... I get sick. I started throwing up and was up all night Monday night. Poor Joey just had to suck it up and get up at night with McCrae. At one point I also had a breakdown because I didn't know what we were going to do with us both sick, two boys and living so far from family that no one can come help. We survived.

Yesterday I started feeling better. I slept most of the day, but last night I showered and started feeling worse. This morning though, I feel better again. Hopefully the worst is behind us and neither of the boys get sick. And hopefully we can start settling in to an actual routine.

Needless to say, it's been a whirlwind of a week. But maybe things are settling down and I can get back into the swing of work, blogging, etc.

Anyone else have week's like this? Surely we aren't the only ones.

me : foster parenthood : a whole new world

Some of you might remember that we were going to get two little girls last month. Well, that didn't work out due to a couple little hiccups. But, I'll have you know, that right now, laying on a blanket in my living room, is the tiniest little guy we've had yet! Shhh... don't wake him.

And right now, I've got two sleeping little boys in the house. We've had new placements before, but this one is little and this one means we now have two little ones at the same time. This is a whole new world to me... to us!!

We still have to get stuff done like introduce him to Lorie, the dog; change his first diaper (the caseworker did the first one at our house); and then there's that first night tonight. It should be interesting. Especially with another little guy crawling around getting into everything and being as clingy as possible at times.

We also have to paint his room. Because right now, it's 3 shades of pink. This will not do.

We're calling him McCrae, but that's not his legal name. But hopefully, one day it will be. ♥
