12 in 2012 : the list

[Many apologies all. I was planning on posting this earlier this morning but I had an impromptu trip to the ER. After being there for 3 hours, they let me go home. No idea what made me sick, but I'm feeling good now. So... on with the post!]

Hi y'all! Happy New Year! Did you have a fabulous New Year's Eve? Ours was good. We were going to have game night and potluck at the church but there was so few of us that we just moved it back to our house. Oh, and our Tahoe died in between getting to the church and leaving the church. That was fun. They towed it to a shop yesterday and hopefully it's just a dead battery. *fingers crossed* But aside, from that drama, we still had a hodge-podge of foods, played games till midnight with friends, had our New Year's Eve kiss at midnight, although I completely forgot to take any pictures... blah. All in all, it was a good night!

With the new year, comes the debut of my "12 in 2012" project. I've been thinking about this for months. I've been writing, editing, re-editing, changing and thinking about my list for as long. I've talked to some people about it, emailed some people about it. I've offered advice, I've changed my mind about the advice I offered, I've thought and rethought so much you'd think this was more work than it is helpful. But I'm just so excited about this project and I want it to be something that a year from now, I look back and realize that I completely exceeded all of my expectations. Not that I've done exceptionally at all of my goals, but that I've set the right goals for myself and have met those goals and am a better person because of it. I want to look back a year from now and see that I am completely changed, for the better. I want to look back and be proud of who I am, what I've done and who I'm still becoming. So with all of these expectations, has come a lot [LOT] of thinking about my list. And, with no further introductions, here it is:

[In no particular order...]

My 12 Goals to Accomplish in 2012

___ 1. Learn how to make fabric flowers successfully.

___ 2. Read "Gone With the Wind"

___ 3. Have a savings account with a balance that never dips below $500. (We've got it right now, let's see if we can keep it.)

___ 4. Lose 30 pounds. (I reset my Weight Watchers [WW] account today, I'm ready to start again!)

___ 5. Run a 5K (oh Lord, help me.)

___ 6. Purge my life & home of things that aren't beautiful and/or necessary.

___ 7. Prioritize my time, organize my home.

___ 8. Work on my children's book/game ideas.

___ 9. Pay off at least 2 "dumb" debts. (like credit cards, etc.)

___ 10. Read the entire Bible in one year.

___ 11. Take more pictures.

___ 12. Write more. (journaling, blogging, letters)

That's it. That's what I'm hoping to accomplish this year.

What are you hoping to accomplish? How would you like to be different in January 2013? That is, if the world doesn't end, let's hope the Mayans are wrong. ;) Are you participating in my 12 in 2012 project? If you're thinking about it, here are some tips for you (just my opinion):

Set goals that involve only you. I originally had a couple of goals that involved Joey, and I realized that it shouldn't be my goal to change anyone but me. Maybe I can still accomplish that task, but it's not going to define me if I do or don't.

Set goals that will help you become the person you want to be.

Set goals that will improve your life. Like losing weight (or just being healthier).

Set some goals that are going to require LOTS of effort and are not going to be easily attainable. Like losing 30 pounds and running a 5K. I have been hearing a lot of people over the passed few years who are runners and talk with such passion about running. I've been saying for about 2 or 3 years now that I want to grow up to be a runner. Well, I think it's time to see if that's something I can do or not. This is going to be hard, but when I finally attain that goal, it's going to be AWESOME!

Maybe you already have some goals in mind. Maybe you need help with a few others, to hit #12. Maybe you have suggestions of your own.

In any case, if you're participating, I'd LOVE to know. I'm hoping that by doing this, we can all mutually encourage and hold each other accountable as well as keep each other updated in the progress of our 12 in 2012 project.

If you're participating, please put this icon on your sidebar. When you add the picture, you can add this link to it: http://yourblognamehere.blogspot.com/search/label/12in2012 and be sure to tag ALL of your 12 in 2012 posts with 12in2012 (be exact with this, or nothing will come up when someone clicks on your icon). This will help me, and anyone else who's interested in your 12 in 2012 project, find your posts easily.

Also, feel free to use any of the 12 in 2012 project logos I've designed. You can copy them, save them to you computer and use them when you need them. Or make your own if you're feeling the creative bug. Totally up to you!

If you're participating, please leave a comment below so others who are participating can find you and follow along with your project as well. (I was planning on doing a linkup but apparently I'm not smart enough for that.) haha.

Good luck and I can hardly wait to read all your lists! This is going to be fabulous!

I'm gonna go on this ride with you. Never thought I could come up with 12 things I want to accomplish in 2012 but I did. The inspirations came to me bit by bit. Some are things I've been putting off and hope to accomplish this year.

  6. Hi friend! I just tweeted you but will tell you on here too-the couch to 5k app for the iPhone is awesome. I have been doing it for 2 weeks now and really like it. It breaks you into running slowly and is rewarding. ;)gina

  7. Love the idea, Regina! Am going to choose a goal at the beginning of each month instead of all at once. Helps me actually accomplish things and not feel overwhelmed.

  8. First off, scary but glad you are feeling better.
Secondly, you are so going to rock those fabric flowers! Great list. Still working on mine but hope to have it posted within the week!

  9. We actually have a few similar goals! I'm hoping to run a 10k this year! I ran a 5k last year, but unfortunately after it was over I fell out of the habit. I'm hoping to pick it back up this year. And stick to it this time!

And I'm also trying to read the Bible in a year! I'm doing a canonical reading plan that's basically straight through (Gen to Rev). Actually I'm starting a weekly series on Sundays sharing what I'm learning or just my thoughs. Anyway, check out Blue Letter Bible for some really good (and free) reading plans! :)

  11. Just co-incidentally, I came up with a list of 12 things to achieve in 2012 earlier this month and stumbled upon your button whilst blog hopping through PA Country Crafts. What a great idea to make it an inclusive challenge. I would like to add your button to my blog but just can't seem to find the java script thingy. Could you help me out please? Cheers, Fiona oh my post is at http://findingfifth.blogspot.com/2012/01/2012-challenge-to-myself.html hehehe
