I did think about doing my Weekly Wishlist last week, but when I thought of it I was busy and then I didn't think of it again. Oops. BUT, to make up for it, I'm going to do two this week. Do you have any seasonal jewelry that you ONLY wear at certain times of the year?

Books & Books & Books &....

Usually, date night for us is on Tuesdays. We go to Lubbock, take care of any errands that need ran, then we go eat at Zookini's (which has half-priced buffets on Tuesdays), and then we'll either go to a movie or go walk around the mall. We had it in the meal plan and budget to go on a date today BUT yesterday I got a call from the Children's Home and they scheduled a last minute training session for this Tuesday and Thursday evenings 6-10. SOO... we decided to go out last night. Plus, we had to go pick out a doorknob/lock set for the new front door that will (HOPEFULLY) be installed this week...more on that in another post.

So last night we headed to Lubbock where we bought our new doorhandle/lock thingymajog, I got a few new clothes, we ate delicious steaks at Texas Roadhouse, and then we went walking around in the mall. We went and looked at the animals in the pet center (always fun), we browsed and window shopped, and then we stopped off at the Barnes & Noble store on our way out of the mall. I went to the Children's Books section and browsed and browsed and browsed some more. So often when I go to Barnes & Noble, ESPECIALLY the one here in Lubbock, I am taken back to Fox Books from "You've Got Mail". f-o-x. Mainly because our B&N is two stories and has a children's book reading area... :) But maybe I'm the only obsessed "You've Got Mail" fan out there... but I certainly hope not. haha.

I can't wait till we have kids in our home!!! I've decided that when we bring the kids to Lubbock, I'll take them to B&N and let them pick out a couple of books to read at bedtime. :) I'm so excited. I believe in reading to your children every night. Every night. Even when they're too young to understand, to young to know what you're doing or what you're saying. I'll still read to them. I want to generate a love and passion for books like I had when I was little. And the reason I had that love and passion is because my Granny read to me every night. Then when I got older and could read, I would read to her every night. She bought me books all the time and I loved them. I read like crazy! I still have a quite a few books from when I was little. Unfortunately, when my aunt and uncle moved in with my grandfather when they retired and to help take care of him, they threw away or sold in a garage sale a LOT of my old books. That's only the beginning of my issues with them for all of that BUT... perhaps that's for another blog. Anyway, thankfully, I still have some books but as I was browsing through B&N last night, there's definitely some books that I need to make sure to buy when we start getting kids in our home. Like these:

I really need ALL of the Little Critters books. They were a favorite of mine growing up! I always used to look for the little mouse in the illustrations.

I think when one of the kids is old enough, I'll take them to B&N and let them pick out 3 or 4 of the Little Miss and Mr. Men books at a time. After all, they're only about $5 a book!!!

And where would we be without Eric Carle's WONDERFULLY illustrated books! I think it's a perfect opportunity to encourage literacy AND artistry at the same time.

And of course, this classic MUST be included in the collection!! I also recently learned at our Basic Medical Care Training Class that this book was written psychologically to help children fall to sleep. Evidently the pictures start small with more wording on the pages and it builds until the pictures are large with little wording on the pages, before it goes back down to smaller pictures and more wording on the pages. Apparently, this is to grab the child's attention, build their excitement with larger pictures and then slowly quiet them down with smaller pictures and more talking... GENIUS! And apparently there are more books out there that use that same concept or a similar one. ALl good things to know before becoming a parent. :)

A Study of Philippians: Chapter 1

This week I'll be working through the book of Philippians. Philippians is a short book, only 4 chapters, so I encourage you to read through all of the chapters every day this week. See what God is telling you through Paul's letter to the church in Philippi.

First off, Philippians can be broken down into 4 parts. Each part is a chapter that focuses on being joyful in different situations.

The Blueprint:

• Joy in Suffering - 1:1-30
• Joy in Serving - 2:1-30
• Joy in Believing - 3:1-4:1
• Joy in Giving - 4:2-23

Chapter 1

v. 15-18~ Paul had an amazingly selfless attitude. He knew that some were preaching to build their own reputations, taking advantage of Paul's imprisonment to try to make a name for themselves. Regardless of the motives of these preachers, Paul rejoiced that the Gospel was being preached. Some Christians serve for the wrong reasons, but we should pray that God uses their message, regardless of the motives. Of course, I'm not saying that we should follow these people, the truth must still be taught. But do not underestimate God's power to get His message into the ears of those who are to hear it, no matter who is doing the speaking.

v. 20-21~ To those who don't believe in God, life on earth is all there is and so it is natural for them to strive for this world's values - money, popularity, power, pleasure, prestige, etc. For Paul, however, to live meant to develop eternal values and to tell others about Christ, who alone could help them see life from another perspective.

Paul's whole purpose in life was to speak boldly for Christ and to become more like Him. Thus, Paul could confidently say that dying would be even better than living, because in death, he would be removed from worldly troubles and he would see Christ face to face.

Are you ready to see Christ? Are you that sure of your salvation? If you're not ready to die, then you're not ready to live! Make certain of your eternal destiny; then you will be free to serve - devoting your life to what really counts, without fear of death.

The Big Debut!

A few months ago, I started thinking about designing my own nursery decor. You know, painting my own wall art, designing my own bedding, and even creating my own mobiles. After looking at current mobiles, looking at nursery decor styles, I have come up with my own line of Children's Room Mobiles. I LOVE THEM. My first line is the Rain Cloud Mobiles, but I've already been thinking, planning, sketching out a couple additional lines. We'll just see how this goes though before I get in "too deep."

Just some quick info:

• For kids ages 0-???: They're great for kids of various ages because they aren't too cutesy tootsy that once a kid hits age 6 they'll hate them.
• Completely Customizable: Customers have the options to either purchase a pre-designed mobile (like the ones pictured below) OR design their own. Once these are in my shop, I'll have a large selection of colors that customers can choose from. Nearly any color combination to match nearly and bedding or room decor can be done. All mobiles will be made to order.
• Pricing: $20 per mobile + $5 for S&H. I think that's a good price for such a great item!
• Size: These mobiles are fairly large. The cloud is about 15X8 inches and each raindrop is appx 3X5 inches. Plus you have to take into account the strings and all that jazz and you've got yourself a pretty good size decoration for your children's room.
• Shipping Time: Because these mobiles will be made to order and I have to have the right color supplies, it can take up to two weeks for production and then a few days for shipping. But we'll see, once I get the ball rolling, if I have several orders coming in I might purchase extra supplies here and there so that would cut the production time down by at least a week.

Weekly Wishlist Fall Series - Flower Decor

Okay, so last week I featured fall pillows. Gosh, wasn't that just lovely? Well, in addition to wanting throw pillows for every season (it's part of that whole "magazine" home-look I'm going for one day...) I also like flower arrangements, centerpieces, wreaths and so on for each season. Not too crazy though... I like the more subtle arrangements. BUT, after browsing around Etsy for a while, I have found some really marvelous flower arrangements and wreaths. Some very traditional... some very whimsical. Weekly Wishlist Fall Series - Fall Decor Pillows

I have plans for this weekend. The "To-Do" List is on the chalkboard in my kitchen. On the list include "Put up Fall Decor ♥". Not that I need reminding... I mean, I've been wanting to put up my fall decor for a month now. Heck, I'd love to put up the Christmas tree but hey, first things first I suppose... :)

I love putting up my fall decor... it make my house feel so warm and cozy! Siiiiigh! Oh heavenly pumpkin scented candles... I can hardly wait! I was browsing around Etsy for some new fall decor ideas... and I found a LOVELY collection of Fall Decor that I just MUST share with you all! But because there's so much of great stuff out there, I've decided to split it up in sections. That way, we can give these fantastic fall items the glory that they truly deserve. This week, we're going to focus on pillows. Weekly Wishlist - The Perfect Fall Outfit

I can feel the change in the air. The highs are in the 90s or if we're lucky, the 80s, instead of the 100s. The nights are much cooler. The days are getting shorter. I know that very soon, cold fronts will be making their way through the South Plains and eventually, they will just stay and hang out with us until about March. And I have to say.... I'm SOOO looking forward to it! :D

Fall is most definitely my favorite season! I love the coolness, the colors, the crispness in the air. I just love everything about it! I'm not sure what's "in" or "hott" right now as far as fall fashion, but for me, I believe that mustard yellows, dark teal blues, grays/greys, dark purples, THOSE are the colors that should be IN for this fall fashion season.
